Sirkka Turkka (b. 1939) published her first collection of poems, A Room in Space, in 1973. Since then, she has established herself as a major figure in contemporary Finnish poetry, publishing a dozen further collections. Poems 1973-2004 came out in 2005. Turkka has received numerous prizes, including the Finlandia Prize and the Eino Leino Prize, and her work has been translated into several languages.
