Praise and Poems
Sparing and un-fussed by verbiage but all the more resonant when skilfully plucking the appropriate adjective to reinforce a meaning – when we’re least expecting it – that’s Fenton’s style. There’s an almost meditative precision to many of these poems but one which never tips into expressive complacency. A selection which is moving, amusing, rueful and optimistic all at once; ‘The sun brings laughter to its shadows’ (‘A Step In Time’) sums it up perfectly –
